Hi all, having some major issues with a AU Falcon BCM module I have here for repair...
Wandering if anyone has a copy of the EEPROM binary (contained within mc68hc705b32)??? 🙏
Alternatively, if anyone might be able to give me any insight as to what goes wrong with these, it would be much appreciated!!!
I do know they are a pretty common failure 😩
Customer reported car wouldn't start one day. Found a burnt current sense resistor, but upon further investigation I'm suspecting it will affect the radio antenna and not much else.
Was probably a red herring.
I've pretty much reverse engineered the entire PCB (spent literally over 100 hours on it. Mostly in my own time, sucker for punishment and all)
I've also reworked by hand every solder joint I've been a bit suss about.
It has no communication with scan tool and no start. K-line seems to be ok tho, Tx/Rx from MCU is alive.
MCU is operating in other respects, I've tested every output that I can and the unit responds to corresponding inputs. Xtal etc is operating fine.
I suspect this is a software corruption issue (might be a bad MCU but it seems ok)
I desoldered and read the MCU (mc68hc705b32) and had no issues in doing so.
I don't know if the ROM in these is mask programmed or one-time programmable, but either way, I wouldn't think the problem could be in the ROM.
The only part (correct me if I'm wrong lol) I could see being corruptible would be the EEPROM contents (I can write to that) and maybe a hardware Id etc is sent via Kline and no longer recognised by scan tool or something.
I've tried multiple scan tools (launch, autel and forscan) and zero comms, yet I do get a response from the ECU on the k-line monitoring it with the scope while trying to communicate. I guess the scan tool sees it as a garbage reply.
If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions it would be awesome. I know a few companies advertise repairs on these and this looks to be a known issue. Any insider info even by PM would be greatly appreciated 😎
It's hard to find a replacement high series BCM, if I do I'll remove and copy the MCU before fitting it in customers car, but I'm also a stubborn bugger and I hate to be beaten on electronic stuff so if there is anyway I can fix this damn thing I will lol 🤣😂
Cheers!
