Changing ABS Pump/ESP Module

I'm looking at adding Adaptive cruise control to a mk4 Mondeo - but i need to change the ABD pump and ESP module to support HLA. I understand i need to recode the PATS system and replacement modules before the car will work - can anyone give me details? I have UCDS and VXNANO but not sure if i can do this myself - I don't want to start the work if it will require a visit to the dealers on a towtruck before i can use the car again!
